Q: I have a new puppy/dog. Which training class should I start with?
A: Congratulations! Depending on the age of your dog, you can begin with either Puppy Club or Obedience & Life Skills, Level 1. Puppy Club goes for 5 weeks and puppies age out at 20 weeks, so you need start that one before your puppy reaches 15 weeks old, but preferably much earlier. If your dog is over 15 weeks old, start with Obedience & Life Skills.
Q: What age can my puppy begin Puppy Club?
A: They're welcome to come along once they reach 8 weeks old, as long as they're on schedule with vaccinations. In order to to make it as safe as possible for your puppy, we disinfect with F10 veterinary disinfectant before class. We also ask you not to bring your puppy if they have been vomiting or had diarrhea in the past 24 hours. We will refund credits if you have to miss a class because your puppy isn't feeling 100%, just let us know beforehand!
Q: Should I do Introduction to Reactive Dogs or Private Lessons?
A: Generally the Reactive Course is a good choice because once your dog does well with the trainer's dog, we can start having the dogs working with each other so they get to practice around a range of other dogs. People worry that their dog won't be suitable to be in a class with other dogs, but the dogs take turns until we get them to that point. The private lessons are good if you're not available for the group class, or if you have a range of things you'd like to work on as well as reactivity. Private Consults are not suitable for working with a dog that's reactive to other dogs when out walking.
